Roy Jones Jr. Still Interested in Silva Fight

Boxing living legend, Roy Jones Jr. Has expressed that he still has a desire to face Anderson Silva in the ring despite Silva's loss to Chris Weidman this summer.  Jones stated that he took his upcoming fight this December against Zine Eddine Benmakhlouf to help get him prepared for a fight with Silva.  Jones hasn't fought in almoat a year and is treating this fight as a warm up fight.

I think that a fight with Anderson Silva in a boxing match could be fun, but I dont think it really benefits either one of the combat sport legends. If one beata the other no one truly wins seeing as both men are at the second end of their careers. It would be a fight for the fans with no solidification of any sorts.  Jones Jr. wins: he beat a fighter out of his prime. Silva wins: he beat a fighter out of his prime. This match means nothing now that both, men are aged and on their way out of their primary sports soon.

A few years a ago the boxer versus mixed martial artist debate was played out and it wasn't pretty at all. James Toney took on Randy Couture in an MMA fight inaide the UFC in which you saw Randy Cooture make James Toney look like a school child against a man. We don't need to see that again. It did nothing good for combat sports whether youre an MMA fan or a boxing fan. It pleases no one. That fight just solidifies my theory. My theory is a boxer can't beat an MMA fightwr in an MMA fight and an MMA fighter cant beat a boxer in boxing match. It is what it is. The idea of the fight of course grabs my curiosity just a bit as to how well Silva would fair against Jones Jr., but I just know he would loseand quite frankly it juat wouldn't be a world class fight what so ever. It would be a fight that favors the boxing community and would even the score between MMA and boxing 1-1 if the fight were to happen.

If news were to break that Nick Diaz or Chris Lytle wanted an exhibition fight against a pro, you would have my undivided attention. In this case, it's a dream fight that would not go as most bandwagon casual fight fans qould expect. It would be a one-sided victory for Jones Jr.

Jackson Reveals His Original Plan

Rampage recently revealed that the rumors that were spread this summer of a possible match with Roy Hones Jr. were somewhat right. Jackson stated that he was prepared to not only face Jones Jr. in a bosing match but also face him in the cage in an MMA bout.  I feel that the boxing match would be more interesting than the MMA fight, unless if I was the only one who saw the Couture/Toney fight. Though I feel Jones Jr. would fair better in an MMA bout, I think that boxing would he more competitive with Jones Jr. getting the victory. If it comes together it comes together fine, but if not I won't beg for it. All these plans  were foiled when Tito came into the Bellator picture. I personally think that Jackson/Jones Jr. is more entertaining than anything involving a man named Tito Ortiz.

Rampage Faces off with Tito

After rumors of a fight with Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match on PPV, Bellator and Rampage kill the rumor by announcing that Rampage Jackson will be fighting Tito Ortiz under the Bellator promotion on November 2nd in Long Beach California.

It is definitely an interesting twist considering the fact that it was rumored that Tito Ortiz was trying to make comeback to the UFC.  I think that it is a good move for Bellator to try to use a former two UFC Light Heavyweight Champions, with heavy fan followings, to bring attention to Bellator.

As for the fight itself, I feel that the best time for this fight would've been before both of these fighters were out of their prime. Let's be honest neither one of these fighters have been exciting for quite some time. I will definitely watch the fight to see if Rampage's 'new found love for MMA' will spark any signal to the returm of the Rampage from Pride FC that we all know and love. As for Tito I have no expectation of anything great from him.

It will be unwise of Bellator to air this fight on Dec. 28 as it was rumored for the proposed Boxing match between Rampage and Jones Jr. There is not a fight on earth that can compete with UFC 168 Which includes the most anticipated rematch in MMA and UFC history--Current UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Wiedman vs. former long time UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. Plus a rematch between UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey and challenger Miesha Tate.
