Sonnen/W. Silva to Be Paired With Weidman/Belfort

UFC President, Dana White, has expressed an interest in having the Light Heavyweight bout between Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen be placed on the same card as the UFC Middleweight Championship fight between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort.  The date is not final for that bout, but the fight is scheduled to occur in Las Vegas sometime in May or Fourth of July weekend.  Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva have been exchanging words with each other for the last year or so and they will finally get to back up all of their talk in the cage.  The two men have already come to blows while filming TUF Brazil 3.

Bisping and Kennedy Ready for Battle

After an eye injury that has left "The Count" Michael Bisping has finally been cleared by his doctor to compete again.  Bisping was pulled from his last fight against Mark Munoz before it could even happen due to the injury. Bisping already had agreed to fight Tim Kennedy whom he had been feuding with via the MMA schoolyard known as Twitter.  The two men will meet at the TUF Nations finale in Quebec.  This will be Tim Kennedy's biggest name opponent in his professional career and also the toughest test since joining the UFC.

Duhnam and Bocek Meet at TUF Nations Finale

A clash in the UFC's Lightweight Division has been added to the TUF Nations Finale card as it has been reported that Evan Dunham and Mark Bocek have been scheduled to fight each other.  Both men are great talents in the UFC that have been unable to find success against top ten opponents in the UFC.  This fight should be pretty entertaining with their individual skill sets coming together in this clash.

UFC 172: Jessamyn Duke to be Featured at UFC 172

According to Brazilian MMA outlet, Combate, TUF 18 Muay Thai standout, Jessamyn Duke is being scheduled to face Bethe Correia at UFC 172.  Jessamyn Duke is coming off of a decision victory over Peggy Morgan who was also featured on the Ultimate Fighter 18 as well at the TUF 18 Finale.  Bethe Correia made her UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 33 in Australia where she defeated MMA veteran Julie Kedzie by split decision.

UFC 171: Raquel Pennington Meets Jessica Andrade

TUF 18 Alumni, Raquel Pennington has now be slated to face Jessica Andrade in place of Julianna Pena.  It was reported earlier this week that TUF 18 winner, Julianna Pena has suffered a serious knee injury that has forced her to pull out of her post-TUF debut at UFC 171.  There are mixed messages about how the injury occurred, but Pena will not be fully recovered by UFC 171.  Pennington made it all the way to the semifinals of the Ultimate Fighter Season 18 in the first ever TUF to feature female fighters.

Pennington is an excellent replacement for Pena.  Pennington already has an impressive resume despite only having seven professional fights in MMA.  She has faced top level competition already such as Kim Couture, Sarah Moras, Cat Zingano, Leslie Smith and most recently a victory over WMMA vet and TUF cast mate, Roxanne Modafferi in her UFC debut.  Pennington matches up well with Jessica Andrade.  Before the UFC announced Pennington as Pena's replacement, both Sarah Kaufman and Shana Baszler wanted the fight with Andrade.

White Thinking Aldo and Pettis

UFC President, Dana White has publicly stated that upon a successful title defense against Ricardo Lamas, Jose Aldo will likely be moving up to 155 lbs to challenge Anthony Pettis for the title.  Thomson was originally set to face Anthony Pettis for the title at UFC on Fox 9 before he pulled out due to an injury.  With Thomson losing to Henderson in their five round clash at UFC on Fox 10. With Thomson and TJ Grant out of the running, there is no one else left in the UFC Lightweight Division is in the running for a title. Jose Aldo and Anthony Pettis were originally scheduled to fight for Aldo's Featherweight title at UFC 163 before Anthony Pettis got "injured" only to become healthy enough to return to action a few weeks later at UFC 164 where he earned the Lightweight title from Henderson. After Pettis won the title Aldo still wanted to face Pettis, but it will just be a matter of time before it will happen.

Johny Hendricks the New Middleweight Champion??

Despite the fact that Johny Hendricks hasn't fought Robbie Lawler for the vacant UFC Welterweight Championship, he already has his future all planned out.  He plans on winning the vacant title and defending it a few times and then moving up to Middleweight and earning that title and staying there to defend that belt.  Hendricks believes that the weight cut to Middleweight would be a lot better for his body than the cut to 170 lb as he normally walks around at 220 lbs.  He is also interested in a fight with the current 185 lb champ, Chris Weidman.

I'm on the fence about Hendricks moving up in weight.  Hendricks is a large welterweight in terms of natural weight and strength, but Hendricks isn't a large welterweight in terms of height and reach.  I feel that Hendricks would be able to throw more power at middleweight, but the weight cut hasn't been a negative in his performance.  He went five rounds with the champ at a high pace with grappling and striking.  He has figured out a way to make the cut and to make it work without losing explosiveness and cardio.  I would love a fight with Weidman at some point, but I don't want him to stay at middleweight as I feel he wouldn't stand a chance at some of the UFC's large Middleweights that are 6'4" while Hendricks stands at 5'9".  I think right now he should worry about getting through a hungry Robbie Lawler in Dallas at UFC 171.

WSOF 9 Main Event and Co-Main Event Announced

The MMA World Series of Fighting has announced it's next card's main event and co-main event.  The main event will feature UFC cast-off Rousimar Palhares' WSOF debut in a title fight with recently crowned Welterweight Champion Steve Carl.  In the co-main event, WSOF Bantamweight stand-out, Marlon Maraes will be facing Josh Rettinghouse for the vacant WSOF Bantamweight Championship.

UFC on Fox 10: Gonzaga Has a Broken Hand

The picture below was released of the broken hand of Gabriel Gonzaga who lost his recent fight to Stipe Miocic at UFC on Fox 10 this past weekend in Chicago.

Antonio 'Minotauro' Nogueira Only Has a Few Fights Left in MMA

Former Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion and former Pride Heavyweight Champion, Antonio 'Minotauro' Nogueira  only has three fights left on his current UFC contract and anticipates his retirement will occur within the next two or three years.  Right now Nogueira doesn't have an opponent set for his next fight.  His last fight was a loss to fellow heavyweight submission expert, Fabricio Werdum in June of 2013.

'Minotauro' is one of the sport's pioneers and like many of the pioneers, he is coming to the point in which he needs to hang up the gloves.  I am glad that Nogueira is getting out of the sport shortly and not trying to hold on too long especially considering he will not be fighting for the title ever again.  Chuck Liddell was a great warrior who stuck around too long and it slightly took away from his legacy by getting knocked out by Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua and Rich Franklin consecutively.  It is good that Nogueira is smart enough to know that he is on the downside and is smart to get out without tarnishing his legacy with even more losses.

UFC on Fox 10: Could This Be the End for Thomson

After coming up short to Ben Henderson in a split decision victory, that many feel that he won, Josh Thomson has not come out and said that he is retiring, but he has hinted towards it.  At the post-fight conference Josh Thomson said that he will need to think about things before proceeding with the rest of his career. Josh Thomson stated that "this may be it" when referring to his loss to Benson Henderson.

I feel that Thomson may still be able to make a run for the title, but only if he wants to.  Sure he is 35-years-old, but Randy Couture win the UFC Heavyweight Championship for the third time at the age of 43?  Thomson is a spectacular fighter with all the tools to get to the top.  Thomson just needs to press forward with his career despite his disputable loss to the former champion on Saturday.  Thomson just needs another impressive dominate win such as the one over Nate Diaz to elevate him back to the top.

Cerrone Wants Six Fights in 2014

Donald Cerrone looked impressive as he landed a head kick to Adriano Martins at UFC on Fox 10 this weekend and earned the Knockout of the Night.  Cerrone is now looking to set a UFC record by fighting five more times this year.  Cerrone has stated that he wants to break this record and stay very busy this year.

If Cerrone is able to be as sharp as he has been since November, I think that this might benefit his career.  He could potentially work his way back to the spot he was in January 2013 when he and Pettis were fighting to see who was next in line for the title.  If he can get wins over some top ten guys such as Khabib Nurmagomedov or Gilbert Melendez, he might be able to get another shot in late 2014 or early 2015.  Cerrone has it in him to be the future UFC Lightweight Champion, but he needs to tweek his style a little and be a shoot-first fighter instead of getting off to a slow start as he has a habit of doing.  We predict big things for Cerrone who has competed for the WEC on three occasions and has impressive wins over big name competition.

Michael Johnson Fills in for Ross Pearson in London

A knee injury has put Ross Pearson out from the fight game indefinitely. With Pearson injured, Michael Johnson has stepped up to face Melvin Guillard at UFC 37 in London. Guillard and Pearson originally met at UFC Fight Night 30, but the fight was stopped in the first round due to an illegal knee by Melvin guillard. The fight was ruled a no contest and a rematch was announced almost immediately.

Michael johnson is coming off of a KO win over Gleison Tibau at UFC 168. Not long after that fight, he called out Diaz as the man he wanted next and then also offered to face Khabib Nurmagomedov when it was announced that Gilbert Melendez and Nurmagomedov would not be facing each other. Though both of those fights are exciting options for Johnson, perhaps the Guillard fight may be an even more exciting fight despite Guillard not being a top 10 opponent.  It will be huge if Johnson is able to defeat Guillard but it looks doable considering Johnson stopped a durable Gleison Tibau.  This isn't a fight that is between two rising contenders in the UFC Lightweight Division, but it is a big name fight for Johnson and the fight could potentially move Johnson up a spot or two in the UFC Rankings.

The Rumor is True

According to FoxSorts.com, Dana White has confirmed that the rumored rematch between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Dan Henderson is indeed happening in Brazil on March 23rd

Pitbull Named Next in Line for Title

Patricio "Pitbull" Freire won Bellator's most recent Featherweight Tournament, but he is forced to sit on the sidelines as Bellator decided to put Curran in an immediate rematch with Daniel Straus for the Featherweight title. Bjorn Rebney has announced that Freire will fight for the title next, but he simply just has to wait for the winner of Straus-Curran III.

Rumor: Shogun and Hendo Throwing Down Again?

Where were you at on November 19, 2011? If you were a UFC fan and ordered UFC 139, it is a night that you will never forget.  It was a night that put together two of PRIDE FC's greatest and most popular brawlers to meet for the first time in their careers.  It was a match up that should have happened in Pride, but eventually played out in the UFC's 205 lb weight class.  Dan Henderson and Shogun Rua went to complete war for 25 of the best minutes in UFC and MMA history on that night.  Below is a highlight video with only a mere few minutes of the action from that night:

For the full video be sure to order the DVD or subscribe to UFC Fight Pass when the full library is released.  It is a must-see for any fan of the two of these MMA legends or anyone who wants to see a beautiful slugfest.  It is being rumored now according to Tatame.com, that the two men will be squaring off against each other for a second time. Nothing has been confirmed by the UFC so far.

The first fight was an awesome fight, but I don't know if a second fight would happen considering Dan Henderson is having contract issues with the UFC right now.  A part of me would be interested to see this fight just to see if the Mauricio "Shogun" Rua that beat James Te Huna would be able to beat Henderson this time around.  I can't believe I would even say this, but I believe that if Shogun vs Hendo II occurred that Shogun would take the rematch. Not because Rua is better than Henderson or more elite than Henderson, but based on the fact that I think that Henderson's time as top dog are over.  Henderson is on his way out the door in his career. No matter how much respect and admiration I have for Henderson, I think that is time for him to call it quits.  He is (1-3) since he left Strikeforce to return to the UFC.

Jackson and Spong Want a Fight

A few weeks ago, the WSOF proposed a joint PPV card with Bellator that would put some of the top WSOF talent up against Bellator's top fighters.  The fight that WSOF  highlighted as the main event feature multiple kickboxing champion Tyrone Spong against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.  It seems that the two are taking the proposed bout seriously as the two of them have been feuding over Twitter over the last few days.  Both men are asking for the bout and believes that they are the better fighter.

I don't think that the fight or the card will ever come into fruition but if the fight did happen it would be the biggest fight that either company could put together with their rosters.  Realistically I don't believe Jackson has a chance despite his recent win over Joey Beltran, who he was supposed to beat anyways.  Tyrone Spong is a world class kick boxing champion with an impressive record of (73-6-1-1) and an MMA record of (2-0).  Even though Spong has few MMA fights, his kickboxing skills with the guidance of the Blackzillians team down in Florida, Jackson doesn't stand a chance.  Though I feel that it would be a one-sided victory for Spong, Jackson does have a puncher's chance, but that is all I give him if a match ever ensued.

Tate and Carmouche Meet at UFC on Fox 11

Contrary to the opinion Matt 'the Immortal' Brown, WMMA keeps getting better and more interesting as the days go by as former Stikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate and Liz Carmouche are set to do battle at UFC on Fox 11on April 19th in Florida.

Carmouche and Tate both share a loss to the current queen of the 135 lb division, Ronda Rousey. Tate desperately needs a win against Carmouche as she is 0-2 since the UFC has brought in the women's Bantamweight division. Carmiuche is in a similar boat in which she needs a win as well at 1-2 in the UFC. It will be a scrappy bout between two of the best in women's MMA.

Straus-Curran III Set for Bellator 112

Bellator has been all about rematches as of late as they already have Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez facing each other a third time this year and now Daniel Straus and Pat Curran will face each other for a third time in March at Bellator 112.  Daniel Straus took the belt from Pat Curran this past November in a decisive unanimous decision win.

I'm really not a huge fan of immediate rematches at all, especially when a fight isn't a really close split decision. There is other talent in Bellator's 145 lb weight class that have earned a shot at the title, who will now have to wait for this trilogy to play out before getting their shot. There is no need for a rematch so soon considering Straus dominated Curran.

UFC: Michael Johnson Wants Nurmagomedov at UFC 170

With Gilbert Melendez out of his match with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the UFC still needs a replacement for Nurmagomedov.  Dana White said that he offered the fight to Nate Diaz amd he turned it down.  Diaz then took to Twitter and stated that he didn't turn down the fight. One person has volunteered to face Nurmagomedov and that person is UFC Lightweight Michael Johnson.

Johnson is coming off an impressive knockout victory over Gleison Tibau at UFC 168. This match would be an entertaining fight and I match that I would be okay with the UFC putting together despite my distaste for Twitter deciding future bouts in the UFC.  Both men are young up-and-comers who both put on exciting fights. Nurmagomedov deserves a top ten opponent but the UFC has been unable to get one for him so  a top 15 opponent isn't a complete loss. Michael Johnson wants a top contender for his next opponent and despite Nurmagomedov not being a huge name he is a top ten fighter.

Miesha Tate Would Fight Rousey 100 Times if Allowed

The UFC's Miesha Tate recently went to war with UFC Champ Ronda Rousey this past December and even though she has now lost to Rousey twice, Tate is still willing to go to war with her as many times as Dana White will allow her to. She stated that even if she lost 99 of the 100 times she would still go to war with Rousey even if it is not for the title.

I would be willing to watch Tate and rousey clash at least five of those hundred times considering Tate was able to last longer against Rousey than her first attempt and the attempt of any other of Rousey's opponents. Rousey and Tate have a legitimate feud that fed both of the competitors to become better fighters and it was evident when they clashed at UFC 168. Tate has admitted to not feeling 100% in her fight with Tate. Imagine what would've occured had we had a 100% Miesha in the cage with Rousey.

Alvarez-Chandler III Happening in 2014

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Bellator Lightweight Champion, Eddie Alvarez revealed that he and Michael Chandler will be facing each other a third time this year and it will be on a Pay-Per-View card.  In their clashes with each other Chandler and Alvarez are both 1-1 against each other and will settle the score in the final match of a trilogy. Chandler took the Bellator Lightweight title from Alvarez in their first meeting amd then Alvarez took it back in their second meeting.

It is very clear that Alvarez and Chandler are Bellator's most interesting draw for a PPV card and the best fight that they can make with their roster. Though I would be interested in the third clash I would much rather see another challenger step up against Alvarez and make Chandler earn a second title shot as Alvarez had to do.  The fight is definitely an intriguing fight but I think that it is too soon. It is a good bout for 2015, but I don't think now is the time. It will be a fight that will answer many questions about which of the Bellator competitors is the real champion.

WSOF Announces Yushin Okami and Rousimar Palhares' Debut

Not long after their release from the UFC, Yushin Okami and Rusimar Palhares were picked up by the UFC's competition, WSOF.  The WSOF has just announced that they are planning to feature the two fighters on their March 29 card.  No opponents have been announced for either of the two men for their debuts.

Kampmann Taking a Break From the Sport

It has been almost a month now since UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre announced that he would be vacating the UFC title and taking a hiatus from the sport.  Another competitor is feeling just like Georges St-Pierre minus the championship woes.  Top 10 Welterweight Martin Kampmann says he is feeling burned out from the sport and is in no rush to return to the sport after two consecutive TKO/KO losses in a row to the top 2 men in the sport, #2 Condit and #1 Hendricks.  He says that he still loves to compete and train, but doesn't want to jump back into the sport without having his fire and drive back for the sport.

Since joining the UFC Martin Kampmann has had to face the elite of the elite with no easy fights in between.  If one were to go through Kampmann's fight history he has fought the best of the best and it is understandable that he would need his body to recover from all of the hard work that he has put into the sport that he loves.  We look forward to seeing Kampmann in action again, but only when he's ready

James Te Huna at Middleweight

James Te Huna has posted on his Facebook page that he would like to make the move to the UFC's Middleweight Division after his recent loss to Shogun at the end of 2013. There was much talk of Shogun moving to Middleweight if he were to lose his bout to Te Huna, but instead Te Huna has decided to make the cut down to 185 lbs.

I believe that Te Huna could make the cut and possibly be a factor at 185 lbs.  Te Huna's overaggressive performance cost him the win as he was KO'd by Shogun Rua at UFC Fight Night: Australia.  Te Huna hasn't had his best year in the UFC in 2013 and looks forward to new beautiful things at 185 lbs.

Silva Still Wants to Compete/Possible Super Fight with Georges

According to Anderson Silva's manager, Ed Soares, Anderson Silva is doing better than expected in his recovery.  At UFC 168, Silva was competing to get his UFC Middleweight title back from Chris Weidman, the man who took it back at UFC 162.  In the second round of their fight, Silva threw a leg kick at Weidman, who checked the kick, which caused it to break.  Silva went into surgery that same night to repair the broken leg and the surgery was a success.  Soares has stated that Silva is able to walk with crutches and able to move the toes of his broken leg.

Soares stated that Silva is still in fighting spirits and could possibly be back training as early as six to nine months.  Silva's camp already has an opponent in mind for his return and that man would be former UFC Welterweight Champion, Georges St-Pierre.  GSP announced a leave of absence from the sport not long after his title defense at UFC 167 in November against Johny Hendricks.

This wouldn't be the first time that a fight between the two of former champions has been spoken of.  For years the two dominant champions had been mentioned in the same sentence as the words 'super fight.'  Both men had practically cleared out their entire weight classes before GSP's leave of absence and Silva's injury.  It is very likely that GSP will return and Silva has already shown his interest in still competing, so this match is completely doable especially considering that at one time Anderson Silva fought as small at 168 lbs and 174 lbs.  Silva and GSP could meet at one of their respectful weights or in a catchweight bout somewhere in between.  I think that it would be an amazing crowd-pleaser and put the two most dominant champs in the cage with each other.   It is very unlikely that Silva will be fighting for the UFC Middleweight Championship and GSP will probably have to win a few fights before he gets another crack at his title that he vacated, so why not have them return against each other as long as GSP and the UFC complies.  When asked about a fight with Silva not long before announcing his temporary leave from the sport, GSP stated that he would prefer to continue his legacy in the welterweight division  and defending his belt.

It is a fight that I wouldn't mind seeing and I think that it would be a big money fight for the UFC and a bigger super fight than some that have come before it.  It would be a good fight at 180 lb catchweight.
